I feel like I have to explain a few things about this site.
After we decided that we want to maintain a blog for all our travelling, I thought this would be a nice project to keep me (Hendrick) occupied, and to start to have a little portfolio of programming online. I didn't want any Wordpress or Wix or Tumblr or any of that. Homegrown is the best. So now, this little project grew into quite a site with a few features, that might need explaining.
Internationalisation
This whole site is available in English and German. The site tries to determine the language to first use by the settings of your browser. You can always change the language in the menu above, the setting is maintained in a cookie. As writing our blog posts in two languages would be a bit much, and because we like to alternate between writing posts in German and English, we looked for a way to enable all readers to read our posts. Therefore, if you are reading a post in the other language, you can opt to have it automatically translated. This is down by the Google Translation service in background, and apparently gives quite mixed results. Still, probably better than nothing. If you switch on this translation service, the setting is maintained in a cookie as well, and all posts will be in your language.
Gallery
If a post has more than one picture added to it, you can switch through the pictures either by clicking on the left and right part of the image, or by swiping the image, if your device supports swiping. There is a fullscreen mode with the button in the bottom right corner, which needs a little improvement, but should work mostly well. If you have problems with the gallery, be sure to let me know!
Geolocation and Timezones
As you may have noticed, some posts have two times given. We track where we write all our posts, and the timezone is saved with it. This enables us to give you the time when the post was written both in your time and in our local time. Secondly, if you haven't seen it, we have all our posts mapped out in the "Route" page, linked above.
Open Source
All the code for this website is Open Source and available on Github. This means, if anything on this site doesn't work for you as it should, you can go there and post an "issue" with the site. Or you can just contact me directly, which is probably easier.
