Although Judi already did a post for Slovenia, I had to do one as well - it's that beautiful.
We wandered along quite a scene, not quite to the top of the mountains above Bovec, but still with a stunning view. We learned that the valley and mountains around here were a battle ground during the first World War, where a lot of soldiers af all sides let their lives. Several big cemetaries in the town tell that story.
Up in the mountains there are still ruins, for example Fort Hermann, named after - I kid you not - Johann Hermann von Hermannsdorf. It was bombarded by italian artillery from as much as 13 kilometers away, and the craters are still visible all around, even after more than 100 years.

The next day we visited a different part of Slovenia - the coastal town of Piran. The Mediterranean was as stunning as expected.
