I'm a little irritated. For two days we have now been in the Saranda, in the south of Albania, and I have no idea what I should write about. The problem is not that there is not enough material for an interesting post. There is too much.
We are set up in relatively new hostel just a few minutes away from the beach. The 26 year old owner is going to leave tomorrow, to go to a wedding to Tirana for a week, and the hostel will be run by the 6 or 7 volunteers, who are helping renovate the cellar to make way for a fancy bar. We are volunteering for Shawn and Kyle, a californian couple, who are trying to bring their dream of an agro-tourism farm to life, just outside of the town in a crazy beautiful countryside. Every day, we drive with them in their original first generation VW bus to the farm, which is not much more than a hill with stones so far, and help them clear out areas from thorny bushes, or dig holes for the hundreds of fruit trees they want to plant and grow. And in between a frenzy hostel with 20-somethings from all over the world and working and sitting and talking in the countryside, we still find time to see the sights of the region. And boy are they worth seeing.
So, what does one focus on? The sights? The people? The food? The atmosphere of the place? The politics in the country? My brain isn't able to decide at the moment, so this is just a lifesign. Enjoy the pictures.
Oh, and Peggy is just fine by the way. Turns out, cars need oil sometimes. Huh.
