Following recommendations of several tourist guides and fellow travellers, we decided to leave the coastal path and drive up the so called Waterfall Way, through Bellingen and Dorrigo. Bellingen ist known as a haven for alternative people and lifestyles, and the quirky little town with its shops and lively Saturday market didn't disappoint. What also didn't disappoint was the rainfall. The downside was, that the bridge to the other side of town, to the Gleniffer Falls and the flying fox island was flooded (including the adjacent carpark, just after the night we camped on that carpark, but don't tell our mums). The upside was, apart from a nice picture of a flooded bridge, that the waterfalls that where reachable had lots of water in them.
The drive up to Dorrigo and its surrounding area including a National Park are dotted with waterfalls, which all were rich and loud with water. The carpark at Dangar Falls in Dorrigo was flooded with cars of locals, who wanted to see the huge waterfall with their own eyes. The rain had been scarce in the past, and everyone seemed happy seeing so much water. Seems like we kind of picked the right time to go along Waterfall Way.
