Sometimes, travelling can be a series of little mistakes - which makes travelling to the adventure it is. For example: Yesterday.

The day started out with huge breakfast from our Hotel in Karlovag, and language irritations between Croatian, German, and English with our host. After setting off, we realized the sounds from our car were getting louder, so we pulled over in the next bigger town of Starigrad, to have it checked. Turns out, if you decide to take the curvy nice road along the coast, the wheel bearings will be getting angry at you. So we had a few hours to spare while the trusty mechanic with quite good german skills got to work with our car.

What did we do? Hiking of course! The hills above the town didn't only spoil us with nice view above the town and bay, but also an old burial ground or "spirit ground", where herders where ceremonially buried up until the 50s. We decided to make it a trip around the summit, rather than to the top of it - after all it didn't look to difficult. So after a visit to a deserted little village straight of an old Western (the german Karl May Western "Winnetou" was filmed around here), we struck with a choice of either going back the same route we came up, or climbing down the other side, down a ragged mountain. I wasn't very sparing with expletives.

Anyhow, we got down the mountains with all our knees intact, and continued our journey to Montenegro with two new wheel bearings. Trouble being, that the route through Bosnia and Hercegovina, that Google Maps chose for us, of course took us over two borders, which we had to cross at night because of all the delay. A little tip for fellow travellers: Always check every booth you pass for additional border control officers. Also, download maps before you leave the EU - one can get quite used to the idea of obiquitious internet access.

In the end, we arrived safely at our Airbnb place in the Bay of Kotor, with sore feet and knees, new knowledge of traditional burial sites, borders, car parts, and a new sense of adventure.
